Our special ongoing exhibit highlights the work of a true pioneer of Modern art. Unlike the politically inspired muralists of his native country, he pondered metaphysical concerns such as the nature of time and man’s place in the universe, becoming a leading innovator in style, method and technique. Tamayo’s work has been displayed in major museums throughout the world. It is influenced by pre-Columbian, yet it strongly retains its Mexican identity. Our exhibit is composed of several of his legendary original mixographs, a technique he invented, as well as rare hand-signed aquatint etchings and color lithographs. Also part of the exhibit is as a very distinctive oil painting on canvas executed in 1967.
