RL9 “Sun Fusion Wheel” 1987 steel and acrylic sculpture, 39 x 39 x 17¾ inches
Roberto Lauro's work is spontaneous and loaded with energy. The furrows, rifts, cracks and scars in the metal sculptures, allow light to enter which then is reflected back by the glass, to which he likes to refer to as "the soul" His work is a clear statement of our times, uniting the intellect and the heart in search of the spiritual. Like the interplay of light and shadow, his sculpture combines fragile, transparent glass with solid, heavy iron. These colorful and luminous sculptures convey a powerful presence and emit vibrant positive energy. The transparency of his watercolors has much in common with glass due to the unpredictability of both mediums. In fact, his watercolors serve as inspiration for his three-dimensional works.

Roberto Lauro is a well-known sculptor and painter in his native Switzerland and has also exhibited extensively in Germany, France and Austria, where several large public outdoor sculptures can be found. Since the 1950's, the theme of Lauro's work has focused on landscape and nature. Born on an island and raised in a farming community, he was constantly surrounded by gardens, fields and woods. This generated a primal bond between him and nature that is expressed in his creations. His outdoor pieces are created with the intent to harmonize and to become one with nature.
