Tamayo was a true pioneer of Modern art. Unlike the politically inspired muralists of his native country, he pondered metaphysical concerns such as the nature of time and man’s place in the universe, becoming a leading innovator in style, method and technique. Tamayo’s work has been displayed in major museums throughout the world. It is influenced by pre-Columbian, yet it strongly retains its Mexican identity.
