Sculptor Betty Gold has works in more than 100 permanent installations and private collections throughout the world, including in the Palm Springs Art Museum’s sculpture garden. All of her outdoor pieces are constructed from welded steel. some painted with glossy enamel and others left in their raw steel state to rust to a velvety patina. Indoor sculptures are created from bronze or steel and wood. Gold began her career in Texas and Colorado in the 1960s, relocating to Southern California in 1977. She lives and works part-time in Mallorca, Spain, where she constructed a large abstract sculpture outside Es Balurad Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. In 2005 she had a retrospective in Spain, “Betty Gold—35 Years of Sculpture,” that filled ten rooms of the historic Casal Solleric Museum. One of her works is owned by the prestigious Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, home to Picasso’s Guernica.
