Francesc Genoves was born in Barcelona, Spain, and was strongly influenced by the rich artistic traditions of his native Catalonia, a region that produced several 20th Century masters. Drawing directly from the depths of his own subconscious and the collective unconscious, his visions and mystical imagery recall fragments of long-lost civilizations, taking us on a journey to past and future realms.

Genoves also takes inspiration from the Expressionist tradition, particularly the art of Edvard Munch and Francis Bacon. He incorporates the use of collage and mixed media techniques and brings to his canvases an energy that is compelling in its movement and its message. It speaks in the universal language of feeling, often prompting an emotional response from viewers.

In 2002, one of Genoves’ very large canvases was purchased by the government of Andorra and given to the United Nations; it will be installed permanently at the main lobby of the U.N. headquarters in New York.
